A cancerous internet fad that spreads like a tumor and is really annoying. Every time you go on a webpage or forum you'll see a meme.
Man: "Boy I'm sure having a good time"
Little brat: throws a piece of food at him
Little brat: "YOU MAD BRO!? YOU MAD!?"
Man: "Shut the fuck up you meme loving scrub!"

1) An inside joke for people with no friends with whom to have actual inside jokes.

2) A method to give meaning to otherwise meaningless, pointless lives.

3) Something, ANYTHING, that is on the Internet.

In essence, a meme is a running joke carried out not by a solitary comedian, but by the collective online community. Memes are very impermanent, rarely lasting more than three to six months (with a handful of notable exceptions which have lasted for several years), both due to the susceptibility of any joke to be worn out, and due to the rapid communication present on the worldwide web. Many advertising companies and media outlets misconstrue this quite severely, however. (In more recent years, dead memes have been resurrected and used ironically, likely fueling the confusion.)
A: Hey, have you met my friend... JOHN CENA
B: That meme is really getting old, man. It used to be funny, but now it just ticks me off!
